A Little About Us

Our chapter of Tau Beta Sigma is a group of VT students who are incredibly passionate about music, service, and sisterhood! We carry out numerous service projects during the year, and a lot of these projects benefit the music department at Virginia Tech.

Our Mission Statement: We provide exceptional service to collegiate bands and promote equality and diversity, including empowering women in the band profession. We cultivate leadership, educational achievement, music appreciation, and community development.

Our Mission:

Installed in 1979, the Zeta Omicron chapter is happy to provide support to the Virginia Tech Department of Music: The Marching Virginians, the Virginia Tech Concert Bands, and our amazing faculty and staff.

Zeta Omicron is extremely active during band camp, welcoming new students and helping the week-long event to run smoothly. Our chapter provides breakfast for the Marching Virginians on home-game days. We sort and redistribute marching uniforms after they have been cleaned, collate drill charts, and coordinate Band Parents’ Day and Alumni Weekend events. Sisters sort music for the marching and concert bands and make ourselves available to the music faculty for odd jobs around the department. We usher and stage-manage for student recitals, concerts, guest artists, and speakers in the music department. The sisters label and stuff envelopes and mailers, fold programs, and post advertisements for the music faculty. ZO is also extremely active in our annual VT Honor Band, helping to coordinate and organize the event.

After band camp, our chapter hosts a Marching Virginians Field Day to encourage fellowship between the band members and to welcome new recruits. A cookout and a series of outdoor games allow the band members to come together in a stress-free and morally sound environment. Many of the sisters of Zeta Omicron are rank captains or officers in the Marching Virginians, or section leaders in the campus concert bands. Sisters strive to always be the best examples for their sections and for the entire band through service. Sisters are charged to be an open resource to any member of the band, faculty, or staff. We at Zeta Omicron are not only sisters but best friends. We love to serve, and we truly enjoy every minute of our privilege of membership within Tau Beta Sigma. Through the support of our district, our sponsor, and each other, we strive to always achieve excellence in both music and service. Some of our service projects include organizing and running VT Honor Band with KKY; adopt-a-highway cleanups; MV Cookout; Moss Arts Center volunteering; VT's "The Big Event", and more!

What Else Do We Do?

While we are a service organization, we do SO much more than just service! We have sisterhood events so that we can get to know each other and spend time together outside of service projects and sorority meetings, we have joint events with KKY and other music organizations, and we have fun events and projects to fundraise for our chapter.

Here are some of the other fun things we do other than service:
